I had never even heard of a sardine sandwich before, so we had to film this one for another sandwich show. I would have been happy filming any of the unique sandwiches (and of course the burger) at Mean Sandwich in Ballard, but this had to be the one. You get a whole tin of high quality Spanish Sardines (Matiz), along with cilantro, pickled celery root, pickled jalapeños, lettuce, lemon pepper mayo, and house made mustard.

But the one other ingredient kind of blew my mind that I've never encountered on a sandwich before - The Fried Lemons! Besides "bringing a bright, lemony flavor to the entire sandwich... the pectin in the lemon breaks down in the oil, and it's got a great tooth to it" says Dan.

If you love a good tuna salad sandwich, this sandwich will show you how a sardines can be just as flavorful in a sandwich.
